In the south of Tibet near the north of Shanan Prefecture at the north foot of the eastern section of the Himalayas, Lhunze County covers an area of 10,566 square kilometers and has a population of 30,000. In the Tibetan language Lhunze means “ everything goes well and power strength is great.” Under the administration of Shanan Prefecture, the county seat is located at Xingba. This area is famed for its beautiful landscape, dense forests, numerous precious wild animals and giant dissolved caverns. The special local products comprise Xueshacianglagong butter and Jiayu butter bowls. The Sananquling Monastery is subject to the White Sect. It is not only a holy land for the Tibetan Buddhists but also enjoys a great influence over the Buddhists of India and Bhutan. There are 16 monasteries and 12 Lhakangs within the territory of the county.
