Day01 Arrival in Lhasa Today, arrival in Lhasa (3650 m), the capital of Tibet, transfer to hotel. Stay at the hotel to acclimatize to the high altitude. For the first few days, try to drink some water regularly. 3N at 3*Thangka Hotel
Day02 Lhasa BL Full day guided tour in Lhasa. In the morning, visit of the Potala, which was originally constructed in 637 by Songtsen Gampo, the first king of the united Tibet, and later expanded and used as the Dalai Lamas’ winter residence and as the religious and political center of traditional Tibet. The crowds of pilgrims, the innumerable and magnificent murals, Buddhist statues, scriptures and rare treasures put altogether create a dense religious and artistic atmosphere that impresses every visitor. In the afternoon, visit of Jokhang monastery, the center of the Tibetan Buddhism and the sacred land of Buddhist believers, where thousands of pilgrims come to worshipevery day. The temple, built in 647, is the oldest wood-and-masonry structure still existing in Tibet. Walk on the Barkhor street surrounding Jokhang, a big market selling local specialities.
Day03 Lhasa BL In the morning visit of Drepung monastery, the sacred land of Gelug Sect., which was established in 1416, and the second, third and fourth Dalai Lama once resided in (place of living). After the visit of Norbulinka, the Dalai Lamas’summer residence. In the afternoon, visit of Sera monastery, which was built in 1419 and has always been an important Buddhist seminary. As roses are planted everywhere in the monastery, it is also called “the court of wild roses”. Today 200 lamas still live there. The "Buddhism Scriptures Debate" in Sera is very famous.
Day04 Lhasa – Nam Tso BLD Check out in the morning and leave for Nam Tso lake. Meaning “Heaven Lake” in Tibetan, it is one of the three holy lakes of Tibet and the highest lake in the world with an altitude of 4,718 meters over sea level. With a length of 70 kilometers from west to east and a width of 30 kilometers from north to south, it covers an area of 1,920 square kilometers. Nam Tso is said to be the largest lake in Tibet and the second largest salty lake in China. On arrival, we will visit the Tashi Island and a small nunnery nearby the lakeshore together with some fresco paitings and carvings on the cliff. Camping tonight
Day05 Nam Tso BLD
Full day explore exploration along the lake. We will hike from our camp on the Tashi Island to the E and N banks of the lake. Later in the afternoon we will reach a little but lovely hot spring before our arrival to two small Gompas where is the ideal place to have a fantastic view of the mighty mountain range Nyenchentangla. Finally we retreat back go back to our camp before sunset. Camping
Day 06 Nam Tso – Baingoin Tso – Serling Tso BLD
Leave in the morning for Serling Tso via Baingoin Tso. On the way visit of Baingoin Tso, which is 4522m over sea level and with extremely beautiful fowls of wild birds hovering above the white and soft salt mire flying over the lake. Drive to Serling Tso (4530), and Camping tonight by the lake
Day07 Serling Tso – Kanglung Tso – Nyima BLD
We set off in the morning for Nyima, a small town in north Tibet. On the way we can see a lot of rare animal species. On the way, stopover at Kanglung Tso lake (4500m). Today is a 6-8hrs drive. One night stay at a basic guesthouse or camping
Day08 Nyima – Dangra Tso BLD
Leave in the morning for Dangra Tso at Wenbu Village. Dangra Tso is 4500m above over sea level and the home to many wild animals such as wild donkeys, Tibetan antelopes, and wild deers etc. According to local Bonpa believers, this lake is divine. We will have a warm welcome when meeting the locals, wearing their very unique traditional costumes. Camping by Lake Dangra Tso
Day09 Dangra Tso BLD
We will take photos while walking by the lake. If time and energy permits, visit of the ruins of Xiangxiong Kingdom in Qiongzong. Return to Wenbu Village and camping by Lake Dangra Tso
Day10 Dangra Tso – Targo Ri BLD
Drive southwards to Targo Ri, a holy mountain of Bon. Walking at the foot of Targo Ri. Camping
Day11 Targo Ri – Sangsang BLD
Drive to Sangsang in the South of Targo Ri. Camping or overnight in simple guesthouse.
Day12 Sangsang – Ngamring – Lhatse – Shigatse BL
Drive via Ngamring and Lhatse to Shigatse. Near Lhatse visit the Phuntsoling Monastery of Jonangpa School. 1N at 3*Manasarovar Hotel
Day13 Shigatse – Yungdrung Ling – Shigatse BL
In the morning drive to Yungdrung Ling Monastery of Bon in Namlin, 90 km northwards of Shigatse. It’s the biggest Bon monastery in Tibet. 1N at 3*Manasarovar Hotel
Day14 Shigatse – Gyantse – Yamdrok – Lhasa BL1N at 3* Thangka Hotel
Day15 Leave Lhasa B
Check out in the morning and transfer to airport/railway station and see off. End of the adventurous expedition to Northern and Western Tibet.
